The Interpretation of dreams

A night of thunder and lightning.
I was asleep.
A war being waged in my dream.
Although unaware of why the war is taking place in the first place, I am nevertheless fighting fiercely as if to make myself a war hero. At that instant, a bomb exploded.
The explosion was so loud that I woke up from the dream.
But, of course, the sound was not a bomb, it was the thunder that stoke at that very moment.
This phenomenon is also briefly mentioned in ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’ by Sigmund Freud.
The book describes how a leaf fell on one’s neck at the very moment the person was dreaming about being guillotined.
How on earth is this possible?
The story in the dream was happening well before the actual event (the sound of thunder, a leaf falling on one’s neck)!
Although I am clueless as to the brain’s mechanism that leads to such events,
A dream about eating never leads to falling food…
