[Part 5] Tommy & Tiky : Intelli-Studio
Thank you for coming to see me. Let’s find out how to edit the movie file, the core of ‘Intelli-Studio’, for today then.
Let me open the file from ‘Edit’ mode. There are three methods,
1. Select ‘Edit’ mode after select the file.
2. Do the right clicking and select ‘Edit’.
3. Enter to ‘Edit’ mode first and then open PC window to select the file and click ‘Move’ button or drag the file directly. If you use this method, you can move several files at the same time.
Then the movie file comes up on ‘Source List’ like this.
Choose the original file and either click ‘Place’ button or drag it to the Storyboard/Timeline part. Now preparation for editing movie is done.
When you click the button in big red box it turns to the timeline mode and the thumbnail size of movie will appear on the bar, right side of the ‘Timeline mode’ button. That thumbnail size changes depend on length of the movie – size becomes bigger as the movie is longer. If you want to control the time unit length, use + or – in the small red box. Then time unit will show up smaller or bigger.
Let’s take a look how to cut useless part of the movie, the basic of editing, from here.
You’ll notice the changed part when you click ‘Trim’ button.
Time display line under the movie changes to yellow and becomes active, and the sign to trim the section shows up with triangle figure. Do you see those arrows are pointing at in the picture? When you move those triangles, you can select the section that you want from the movie.
After that, when you click ‘Keep’ button, only yellow part will remain from the time display line.
On the other way, yellow part will be removed if you click ‘Remove’ button.
Hmmm. I see.
However, the removed part is not gone forever so you are able to replace it by extending both ends.
You can control the length of movie from timeline like this however you want, so you should try.
Cut movies to appropriate length like this and then put them into the storyboard to be in order.
Put the movie into the place that you want by dragging it if you want to change the order of movie.
It appears in sequence in timeline too, of course.
Ah, that’s it.
You also can give variety effects include this function just like you watched in movie from here.
But let’s keep it for next time…

The Intelli-studio software provides – in principle – all I want/need. However, when in ‘edit’ mode, the previously saved project-files (.spl) don’t play back properly. Only the first clip plays back, the rest just showes a black, blank playback-screen (even though the thumbnail at the bottom is there). Any help?

I just checked the problem that you wrote above with .spl format, but there was no problem on my program. It is hard to know exactly for now what your situation is, but I guess it probably caused from the installation process while you installed the program on your PC. I suggest you to delete the program from your PC and re-install it step by step. Also I suggest to check either your software is the lastest version or not.

‘Run-time’ error that you asked has too many kinds of problem so it is hard to solve the problem exactly from your story and we ask your understanding for that. What we suspect for your problem is there could be some program that conflict with ‘Intelli-studio’ in your compouter.
There was no programs reported as conflicted with ‘Intelli-studio’ yet (or installation program such as ‘Active X’), but we will look for some programs and try to give you satisfying answer as soon as possible.

Firstly, thank you for posting responses here. I am thinking of pre-ordering the upcoming U10 model of camcorder, which comes with intelli-studio.
This seems perfect for me, as I own a Linux based laptop which does not have the processing power to handle video editing, so when I realised that intelli-studio allowed me to edit within the camera itself, I thought this is just what I need.
However, I now read this page which mentions installing intelli-studio onto a Windows computer. So I wonder if the U10 allow in-camera editing without a PC or not?
1) Can you *guarantee* that the U10 can EDIT videos without being connected to a computer?
2) If there is software which needs to be installed, is there a Linux version?
3) What features will I miss out on if I do not install any software?

Thank you for having interest at Samsung product.
1) Without PC, you only can divide the media that you filmed. You have to keep in mind that you have very limited function for editing without PC
2) Software in Samsung camcorder – include ‘Intelli-studio’ – is only works in PC based on Windows. It does NOT work in Linux or MacOS version PC.
3) As I told you above, you can ONLY do dividing that you filmed with U10. When you connect the camcorder to PC and use ‘Intelli-studio’, you can easily do detailed editing using timeline, scene converting effect, insert music/text, revising color, and etc.
You cannot upload to YouTube only using U10, so you also need PC or laptop connected with internet to upload it.

I am still interested in the U10 camcorder, since I have regular access to a Windows PC, so could you tell me if the software on the U10 has any minimum requirements for the PC which will be hosting the U10? If I was to use advanced editing features, how powerful would the PC have to be?

I note that Amazon lists it as having “Hyper Digital Image Stabilisation”, but the Samsung YouTube channel said it has no image stabilisation. Which is true? If it does have this feature, does it apply to full HD mode, as many I.S. features do no work with maximum resolution?

CPU: Wolfdale 2.5GHZ
RAM: 2GB
Those are the requirements that you should have at least.
This is not a formal official information of manufacture.
You can run ‘Intelli-studio’ with lower condition of PC but it will be the best if you have all of those conditions.
Now, about your P.S.
‘Intelli-studio’ runs automatically when you connect the camcorder to the PC based on Windows with USB cable.
You do not have to install it.
Window will show up about asking you whether are you going to install the program or not when you connect the camcorder to PC at the first time.
However, you do not need to install the program to use it.
It’s just that you don’t have to connect the camcorder next time after you install the program in PC to run ‘Intelli-studio’ for editing movie.
For your P.P.S.
Unfortunately, U10 does not support ‘Hyper Digital Image Stabilization’.
I’m not sure did I give you satisfied answer.

Just a couple more questions: You mentioned that the U10 can split video without USB connection, can it also *combine* video without USB connection i.e. on the camcorder itself? I appreciate there will be file size limitations, but I’d like to know that it can definately divide AND combine on the U10, as with the C10.
On pictures of the U10, is that a tripod screw at the lower corner?

Now for your first question, editing ability without connecting to PC is different between U10 and C10.
U10 is only able to divide the file, and C10 is able to both divide and combine.
For your second question, U10 has a tripod screw, of course.
It just have the hole not on the bottom, but on the side.
Guess you can turn a tripod for that.

Will there be different scene modes we can choose from?

i unstall the samsung intelli-studio, but for rdit 4 minutes it takes 24 hours also the playback looks funny (framing) do you know the system requirements to run the software?

However, I will let you know the system that you should have generally – also it would be better to install ‘Intelli-studio’ to use the software in more convenient way.
If you want to edit HD media file with ‘Intelli-Studio’ you should have at least

For those ‘Runtime Error’ problems, re-installing or updating the program could solve the problem.
I am sincerely sorry to tell you that the reason of this problem is not solved exactly yet. Problem like this has been reported rarely, but we could not find the common points.
It seems like Intelli-studio conflicts with other software. However there are too many differences among individual computers and each programs, and that makes us to solve the problem accurately for each users.
Again, we feel very sorry about this problem is happening.
We will try our best to fix the error through updates anytime soon.

You told us that the movie you filmed with HMX-H104 slows down in Intelli-studio.
So we tested with H104 and Intelli-studio, but it didn’t happen with us.
We assume that it is not the problem in program, but the program could conflict with your PC’s condition or other programs that you already had in your PC.
To edit HD movie in Intelli-studio without any troubles, you should have conditions like below in your PC.
OS: XP(over SP2) or over Vista.
CPU: over Wolfdale 2.5GHZ
RAM: over 2GB
This is not the formal information from the manufacture.
We are not saying that it’s impossible using Intelli-studio with lower condition, but this is the best condition to use Intelli-studio without any troubles.
We apologize that we cannot tell you the exact reason why you are having trouble.
Hope you can tell us the situation more accurately so we can give you the answer more in detail.

Hi…I can play my videos just fine in Intelli-studio but when I go to edit them, they stop every second and then start up again, like someone is hitting pause and play continually. I cannot find any tech support on this anywhere…can you help?

I have a strange problem… the text on the buttons (OK, cancel etc on a dialog box) and the labels for effects as well as many other areas are so small I can hardly read them. how can I make them legible?
Hi. i was editing my videos (and i saved the edited one)and i wanted to upload them to youtube but when it was uploaded, It didn’t show the edited one it showed the uncut video and i fidgeted with it trying to save it in different places and other things but it wouldn’t upload the right one and i spent 2 hours with it and it just made me go insane! I felt like ripping my hair off because of it so pleasePLEASE give me an explanation and also does it take 30 – 40 minutes to upload a 3 or 4 minute video?? Im not sure if its my computer or its the software. please reply A.S.A.P.

We don’t know what happened exactly when you use though.
If you save it with proper format, that could be the confliction with PC or the program error.
We recommend update or re-install after deleting the program.
However, if you get the same problem, visiting after-sales service center is the best choice.
And about uploading time, it depends on the condition of network and it takes some time to appear on the Youtube screen.

I am trying to burn my videos to a DVD and third-party burner software doesn’t recognize the Intelli-Studio file, so I need to save this file as a movie format.
It seems this is a reoccuring theme that is happening to a lot of people using this software. Is there anything else you can recommend besides taking to an after-sales service or uninstall/reinstall? Or do you know some of the other software that Intelli-studio could be conflicting with? Or is there a way to burn my movie/videos to a DVD directly from the Intelli-Studio software?
I am using a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7428 laptop with Vista Home Premium, 2GB.

There currently is Intelli-studio version 2.0, did the error still occur after the upgrade?
The certain program conflicting with Intelli-studio hasn’t been found yet.
There are too many possibilities because of each user’s PC conditions and the files downloaded from the internet.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
And about burning the DVD directly from Intelli-studio,
Try not to run the intelli-studio when you connect the product to PC,
check if the computer read memory card, then you can the project file in ‘My computer’.
If the burner software doesn’t read the project file, just drag and move the files directly to DVD.

Our new products have built-in Intelli-studio version 2.0, but unfortunately the users who have version 1.XX should wait a bit longer.
It is currently being tested. Even though the updating date is undecided yet, it will possibly update soon.
