Oh yes, it’s a Magic Cake!
Hi! My name is Yuki and I’m studying Confectionery & Baking in Tokyo, Japan.
I’ve always wanted to take pictures of my work –but couldn’t, no camera!- and surprise~ my beloved sister gave me this camera as a present!
It’s called ST10(CL50) from Samsung and the great thing about this camera is that if you use the “smart” function you can take beautiful pictures under any circumstances even if you are a beginner like me.
This is the first day that I’ve accompanied my new camera to school.
The sky is blue, weather’s great, I feel great!
Our school is located in one of the wealthiest areas in Tokyo so you can spot really pretty houses –like the one’s you might have seen in fairytales- on the way.
It’s spring now and the flowers have blossomed everywhere making the street look dazzling and splendid.
It is one of the most famous baking schools in Japan!
Recently the building has undergone renovation so you’ll never guess this building is over 50 years old! It’s so chic & clean!
When the cherry blossoms blossom on the tree at the main gate – there’s no scenery like it.

Today, a guest lecturer -who’s in charge of desserts in a famous restaurant- came to teach us
about decorating cakes with sugar crafts.
It never really occurred to me when our teacher was telling us about how important it is for desserts to look as pretty as it tastes to be appetizing, but the minute the lecturer put this sugar craft over a simple mousse….

Wow! See the difference? How can a same cake look so different?! It’s so sparkly and pretty!!
This was the moment when I really realized how important it is for food to be presented beautifully. Not only is it good to look at but if you eat the sugar with the sauce Anglaise it’s both sweet and delicious!

This is a fruit dessert – orange boiled in sugar and wine.
By adding the sugar craft decoration over a simple orange dessert like this, the dish is re-born with a twist of sophistication.
Less to my expectation this sophisticated dessert tasted only of orange with liquor. …… :(

This is a chocolate cake called “Classic Chocolate”
It’s my favorite cake with loads of chocolate and cocoa powder in it – perfect for a chocolate junkie like me!
This is the most nerve wrecking moment in the class – Tasting time!
Not only do I get to taste what I made but I get to taste the work of my classmates so it’s a learning lesson for me. I get to learn what I did better and what I need to practice on.
I can’t help but to think that my work looks prettier and tastes better than everyone else’s, though.

This is the sort of cake that makes you worry about calories because of the sheer amount of butter and chocolate that goes into it. I always try to allow myself with just one piece, but by the time I put myself together, half of the cake is gone. Oh yes, it’s a Magic Cake!
I have yet to fully explore the functions of ST10(CL50), so I wasn’t quite effective in illustrating what this amazing camera has to offer.
But in the next post, I’ll try to bring you more real and delicious pictures!
You can count on me for that!~ Make sure to stop by!
