This time, I repainted Samsung’s one of newest products, NX10, which surprised me with its aspect quite compact as a mirrorless. Regardless of the good mobility, it also supports video shooting in a fairly good quality. What mostly I thought while disassembling the material is that the NX10 has pretty impressive lens for itself.

This is the Samsung NX10 which I’ve made the new figure with. After installing the hood on the bundle lens, it shows off an ergonimic design.

It’s better to close with the cap while operating in order to avoid nudging important parts of the camera.

I loosened all the screws even two hidden inside of the flash.

There was another screw hidden inside of the rubber adhered for the grip.

After eliminating all the screws, I opened the back board then it’s just lifted.

You guys must pay attention in this part. There are two soldered joints you’re seeing just above my thumb, I felt chocked when I touched them with my fingures, so be careful with.

Finally I disassembled the Samsung NX10.

Then I detached all the small components for a perfect repainting.

The housing is completely masked. Now it’s the time to work on the lens.

It’s a 18-55mm standard zoom lens.

I detached all the screws from the mount.

Same for the mainboard.

There are three sawlike gears behind of the lens. One of them is a non-fixed gear, so beware of keeping this.

The screws inside of the hole need to be loosened.

You can separate the tube from the rest when all other three screws on the mainboard are sucessfully eliminated.

The inside of the tube needs to be protected.

I measured the diameter of the hood.

Then cut paper streamers in a round shape to prevent from paint.

I prepared an epoxy primer to paint roughly.

I let them to be dried during one day, then painted over with desert-sand color. I didn’t attach any example pictures showing the painting work but, you will see the colored material in next pictures.

It’s the time to make military patterns. I overlapped papers streamers to produce numerous patterns in the same figure at the same time.

I painted in white all the parts except where the patterns are sticked. I felt so excited when the stickers are all got off !

These are all the pieces painted in military pattern. After finishing lettering, I covered them over with pigment in Polyurethane. Just let them dry during one day.

When skins are solidified, you can begin to assemble the pieces by putting the head.

I set AMOLED screen before covering with the back board. Be careful while operating this part because the screen can be destroyed when if you’re trying to push without correct insertion.

NX10 Standard Zoom Lens 18-55mm

Let’s take a look at the 18-55mm OIS bundle lens. I think the NX10 users use this lens the most. At the moment, there are 3 lenses released for the NX10, and this 18-55mm lens is provided ad as bundle. As a bundle lens, it can be used for various purposes. It has a small size, and supports 3x optical zoom with IS function, so it’s good for snap, travel, and simple Macro shots.

At this time, I’m going to review it with focusing on the pictures taken by the NX10+18-55mm. Let’s take a look at the appearance first.

This lens is not as big, but compared to the 30mm pancake lens, it looks a little bigger. However, looking at the lens itself, it’s quite good and well balanced with the NX10. IS button and AF/MF button are located next to the lens. 58mm filter can be attached.

At the moment, the filter for the NX10 lenses has been released. It’s a little expensive, but since everyone was satisfied with the filter, I’m going to review it later.

The design is quite elegant. Looking at other bundle lenses, they looked so cheap in their design. Therefore, there was some designing point like line tape in some bundle lenses, but this product is so neat and simple.

It’s the maximum telephoto angle with the barrel coming out. Because I got used to the pancake lens, it looked unbalanced, but actually not. It’s very smooth when zooming. It also has great AF performance.

The lens is being attached to the NX10. When the pancake lens is attached, it looks small, and with the 18-55mm lens, it looks well balanced. Because the lens is also quite light, shooting can be easily done with one hand with the lens being attached.

The aperture consists of 7 blades with 14 bladed stars. Compared with the F2.0 pancake lens, it’s difficult to secure the shutter speed under low light condition. However, with proper setting, there was not much inconvenience for indoor shooting. The bundle lens works well outdoors. By using the zoom function, it can blur out the background and simple Macro which was the weakness of the 30mm lens can also be taken with the bundle lens. Let’s take a look at it with various samples.

I prefer the pancake lens due to the mobility, but the bundle lens is also useful for some purpose.

It was about to rain on the shooting day, so it was very dark even in the afternoon. I usually didn’t compensate pictures, but at this time, I adjusted the brightness slightly.

Among the lenses of the NX10 released, Macro shooting can be made with the 18-55mm lens. Of course, it’s also available with the pancake lens, but there’s something insufficient. Setting the 18-55mm lens to the maximum telephoto angle, you will get the great results in Macro shooting. This time, I wrote a review with the 18-55mm lens.

Previously, the bundle lenses of Olympus and Pentax were so great that a lot of peole used it, and I’ve also been using the Olympus product for a long time and the bundle was good enough for me. The bundle of the NX10 also has great performance as much as other bundle lenses. A lot of users have chosen the NX10 + 30mm combination, but if you have an opportunity, I recommend the 18-55mm also. More vivid with the AMOLED

The 18-55mm bundle lens has a compact size with OIS, so it prevents hand blur.

While zooming, the barrel is protruded, so in design, it’s not that good for me.

The compact design of 200mm telephoto angle is quite impressive.

Of course, in order to use the 200mm, the length of the lens increases twice.

I think the 30mm pancake is the best with the NX10.

The best lens with great mobility, quality, and depth expression for the NX10.

Most of all, this review is neither about mechanical performance nor specifications. As a user, I just wanted to talk about the camera. I didn’t even consider talking about noise, quality, and something like that, because there are a lot of professional users out there. Let me just talk about my personal feelings.

Most of the sample shots are also personal pictures. Instead, other users will show you a lot of samples.

When I touched the NX10 first, I thought “Oh, it’s so compact!”. With the 30mm pancake lens mounted, it was so cute. My girl friend and women colleagues showed their big interests in this camera.

Due to my job, I used to take out the DSLR in a big bag, but I could just put the NX10 in the bag. It was so nice.

Especially, it’s great when I traveled. It can also record 720p movie, so with the NX10, I wouldn’t need any others. Remembering the time in Thailand with the DSLR, 50mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm to take great shots last year, the NX10 should have been released last year.

I really wanted to go to Japan with the NX10 to take shots of Tokyo. Rather than taking a lot of equipment with a DSLR, I just want to travel with it.

I think the NX10 would be a great partner for memories not just for pictures. Of course, it also can leave great pictures. I don’t need other lenses, but the pancake lens.

Speaking of which, I think the 30mm pancake lens is the most suitable and greatest lens of the NX10. As you are already ware of, the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses are a protruding type, so they are not as great as the pancake lens, even though it’s inevitable for high zooming lenses. I personally used the NX10 with the pancake lens mounted to enjoy the compact size for the most. However, the 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses are also very slim and light lenses, so it’s not a big burden compared to DSLRs.

As I already experienced once with the WB1000, the AMOLED screen is one of the greatest things. If it has a movie play function, it’s also great to store movies and watch them. I’m going to test it. The AMOLED is incomparably greater than other LCD screens, I think. Viewing angle? It doesn’t even matter with the AMOLED.

I like that I don’t need to hide sunlight to review the shots. I hope the AMOLED will be installed in all the cameras. However, the EVF is automatically activated when I put my eyes on. Sometimes, it’s convenient, but I think it could have been better if there was an On/Off function.

One more thing I liked was Beauty Shot for beginners like me, because I don’t like use Photoshop to edit pictures. This is a great function for girl friends.

Moreover, it has most of the convenient functions to take good shots such as Smart Auto and Scene mode which were supported for Samsung compact cameras. I just can give the camera to my girl friend and set it to Smart Auto to take shots without saying a word.

There were some insufficient things. Personally, the arrangement and composition of the buttons were a little awkward. The menu button is located on the left top alone, so I just tried to find the button for a few seconds. The location of the menu button is a mistake, I think. It should have been better, if located next to Fn button.

Given the whole things, I think the NX10 is an impressive camera enough to be an issue.

The NX10 will be able to make me enjoy taking shots again. It makes me want to travel to take a shot. There’s something about the NX10. The NX10 will make me feel the moment I enjoyed take shots with a compact camera.

After an experience for a month, as a user, I’d like to tell you that this camera would be a great choice to take shots expressing me not just taking great shots.

Samsung Camera NX10..

The NX10 is the first model of NX line up and a popular mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. It’s an interchangeable lens type, but with a smaller body and light weight, it’s trying to have both image quality and mobility.

Samsung Digital Imaging has released the first NX series which is a mirrorless camera in the Micro Fourth Thirds market made by Japanese makers with PEN and GF1,.

It has APS-C size 14.6m pixels CMOS supporting better out focusisng, EVF, vivid 3″ AMOLED, and HD movie recording as advantages compared with other cameras.

3 lenses such as 30mm Pancake lens, 18-55mm standard, zoom lens, and 50-200m telephoto zoom lens have been released, and there will be more various lenses to be launched. By using K-mound adapter, Samsung and Pentax Lenses used for GX series can also be used.

DSLR like Design”¦ It means it seems like a previous DSLR camera. It becomes smaller, but due to the dark and firm body with the blue point which is Samsung’s own, it looks like a smaller DSLR unlike other cameras trying to make a totally different camera.

Things unsatisfied with the NX10..

Since it’s a new and the first model of the NX lineup, I’d like to check as much as possible. Therefore, I could see the great things such as good mobility, bright AMOLED screen, and fast AF speed, but there were also unsatisfactory things.

Most of all, I want to say something about the design. I thought the design was too similar to DSLR cameras. Given that other competitors showed different design compared to DSLR cameras, Samsung should also have designed it with some difference, I think.

However, the DSLR like design is not always bad. Even though the design is like a DSLR, it has great grip with its small size and some people also liked it.

One more thing I want to talk about is AF. The NX10 has contrast AF, and that’s why the accuracy of the AF was a little bit low when taking videos or pictures, I thought. Of course, I used a test sample, not an official one for sale. Even though I considered that it wasn’t as good as an official model in performance and AF accuracy, it wasn’t very good for me. I hope this part has already been improved for the official product.

Waiting for the endless revolution of the NX10..

The NX10 was an issue from the launching ceremony. Because the ceremony wasn’t smoothly progressed, the camera was also criticized.

As I checked it from Samsung, except the NX10 with 3 lenses, there will be following lenses and cameras prepared and NX platform will not be ended shortly. Therefore, if you are interested in mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, the NX10 is also the camera to focus on with taking your time.

Moreover, there will be frequent firmware update as a domestic model, when it’s needed. The update of the previous GX wasn’t made so quickly, because of the co-work with Pentax, but now, it will be made much more frequently with the NX10, I believe.

The ES70(SL600) is made of aluminum, so among compact cameras, it’s smaller and light.

If it’s too rounded, it sometimes caused worse grip especially for a person

with large hands, but the ES70(SL600) is not too rounded, so it’s quite stable to grab it.

Especially, the slated shutter makes fingers more comfortable.

The ES70(SL600) is a full automatic camera, because it has no manual mode and half manual mode (Aperture/Shutter speed priority mode).

Based on the selected metering mode, it works in a program mode.

Instead, it supports Smart Auto which automatically recognizes the situations and sets the camera to the optimized mode.

With pushing Mode button located on the right center, selecting Smart Auto, the ES70(SL600) automatically sets the best shooting mode among 16 modes. (Selected mode is displayed on the left top of the LCD as an icon.)

In conclusion,

At the moment (March, 2010), there are a lot of cameras similar to the ES70(SL600) in specifications at a similar price. Even though the specifications are similar, I don’t think there are a lot of cameras as great as the ES70(SL600) in the price and compact size.

For those who consider aperture and shutter speed is useless and a compact digital camera is heavy, and need a sub camera at a reasonable price, I strongly recommend the ES70.

Let’s take a look at the 30mm F2.0 pancake lens of the NX10. It’s the most suitable lens of the NX10 and has the greater mobility and quality than I expected. This is made by Samsung‘s own technology. That’s why I’ve been worried about the performance of this lens. However, everyone was surprised at the performance. It has 85g of weight and the great quality in F2.0, and I think it’s the greatest pancake lens I’ve ever seen. Not only for image shooting, but also for movie recording by supporting AF, it’s more convenient to shoot.

3 lenses have been released together with the NX10, and I like the 30mm pancake lens the most. Like the picture, when it comes to mobility, it’s almost as great as normal compact cameras. It has relatively fast AF speed, and when using AF, the inside barrel slightly moves. There have been a lot of review regarding the performance and specifications of the 30mm pancake lens and NX10, so I’d like to review with samples rather than them.

Most of the samples were not compensated, but only resized. A little brightness adjustment or sharpness +1 was sometimes applied.

The 30mm pancake lens is especially great for portrait shots, and it can also be used for portrait, objects, and snaps, and the results are so pleasing. When shooting in macro mode, the 18-55 bundle lens is used, but most of the shootings can be done with the 30mm. Even though it doesn’t supports IS function, it can also take great shots under low light condition with F2.0 and great sharpness.

Especially, since the pancake lens can easily blur out the background, it’s very useful for portrait shots. It’s not easy to take shots of children indoors with low light. Therefore, blurry pictures were taken, but the pancake lens can blur out the background and focus on the portraits. It can also capture fast movement. When in portrait mode, I was fully satisfied with the pancake lens.

I took food shots the most with the NX10. Because I could easily take food shots without hand blur, I took a lot of yummy food shots. The NX10 takes shots little yellow, but by adjusting White Balance, I could handle that. In Auto white balance, by setting B+1 or B+2, I could prevent yellow shots.

The shortest shooting distance 25cm

One thing I couldn’t be fully satisfied with was the shooting length. There was not much problem for snap shots, but actually it’s a little insufficient. For macro shots, the 18-55 lens in maximum telephoto angle was convenient.

If the length had been 10cm or something, it could have been used for all. However, there was rarely inconvenience to take snap shots with the pancake lens.

Personally, I enjoy taking patterns. They sometimes made me a little dizzy, but they gave me some special feeling when I took them. Below, I will go over the pancake lens with the snap shots taken by the lens..

I was usually pleased with the pancake lens, but there was also some weakness. It’s the AF performance relatively lower than the 18-55 lens. The AF speed and accuracy should have been better than the standard lens, I think. The absence of IS function was also one of the weakness, but there was no inconvenience for snap shots caused by hand blur.

I prefer the patterns and lights as a subject. Especially, various lights are one of the east subjects to take, because I could easily see them anywhere. Unlike a normal auto digital camera, various shootings are available in manual mode. Of course, by using Program mode and Auto mode properly, various subjects can be taken with various feelings.

It has great sharpness and less distortion. Since its compact design and great performance, I always carry the NX10 + 30mm like a cell phone. Previously, when I used a big DSLR, it wasn’t easy to carry, but now I enjoy taking shots comfortably with the NX10. I’m going to upload pictures taken in a travelog, so I uploaded shots in a dark café. I could get pleasing results both indoors and outdoors. I strongly recommend this.

Now Samsung produces great compact cameras, and the recent ST550(TL225) having a Dual LCD has been recognized as a great camera. In this situation, a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera might be a pride of the camera maker. Of course, there were some cameras like the GX-10 and 20, but they were made together with Pentax, so it was not Samsung’s own.

As I was kind of surprised at the performance of Samsung compact cameras, I was expecting the NX10 a lot. I thought it could have been released last year, but it was a little delayed to early 2010 and I got an opportunity to use it before released. And I’m going to write a review of the NX10 based on my experience.

Because the NX10 is an interchangeable lens type, supply of lenses are the most important,. Therefore, 3 lenses such as 18-55mm bundle, 30mm pancake, and 50-200mm telephoto angle lens were released together. In this review, I will attach the 30mm pancake lens, and I think this lens is the most appropriate to the concept of the NX10. The feature of the 30mm lens can be checked through the above table and Aperture can be adjusted from F2.0 to F22. There will be more lenses released later.

When I received the NX10 first, it was way smaller than I expected. I thought the absence of the mirror could reduce the size. With the 30mm lens mounted, the size became smaller enough to carry around. When travelling, it was usually difficult to choose one between a DSLR and compact digital camera, but the NX10 would be a good alternative.

The NX10 has a traditional design and personally, I don’t like it much compared with classical design of other Micro Four Thirds cameras. I thought the traditional design was selected, because it targeted a lot of users.

If the size is reduced, the grip might be inferior, but the NX10 had a great grip, because the grip part was a little thick. I didn’t like the traditional design, but it could also be an advantage in the good grip, so there’s pros and cons.

AF assist light and self timer LED is attached on the left front, and the light was not red, but green LED. A rumor said a green LED is better to detect Contrast AF, but I’m not sure. A depth preview button is located on the lower part, and custom white balance function can be allocated on this button.

The model name NX10 and 14.6M pixels are printed, and lens detach button is also located on the right front. Looking at it more closely, you will see 3 holes below the NX10, and this is a built-in microphone.

Bulit-in flash supporting TTL is located on the top of the camera near the brand name Samsung. The built-in flash sometimes automatically pops up or can also manually pop up by pushing the flash button on the right side of the picture. The light is enough to take shots without hand blur in a dark place.

I took out the lens. Because there’s no mirror in the NX10, the CMOS sensor is directly exposed. It’s not easy for users to change the lens frequently, and weak to dusts. It could have been better if there was a dust cover like Sigma SD14. Of course, it supports supersonic dust removal function, but I couldn’t help stop worrying a little.

I checked the mount of the 30mm lens. It’s made of metal. The mount is NX mount made by Samsung. By using an adapter, K mount can also be used, but AF is not supported. When a camera maker supplies lenses also, there was some problem regarding lens supply, but Samsung said they will launch new lenses every year.

Let me check the reverse of the NX10. The first thing I saw was the 3″ AMOLED screen which is one of the strengths of the NX10. It has VGA (640×480) of resolution and its great visibility allows users to see the screen well even outdoors. However, as a feature of AMOLED, contrast is rather high, so the real picture in the LCD of your screen might be a little different from the preview of the camera. Other than that, the NX10 has a live view function with 100% visibility and this is so convenient.

An EVF is also located on the upper side of the reverse. It has the same VGA (640×480) resolution as the AMOLED. The advantage of the EVF is 100% visibility and the same information as the AMOLED is displayed. Next to the EVF, an eyesight adjustment dial is located, and below there’s an eye sensor, so when putting your eye on it, the EVF is automatically activated. However, unlike optical view finder, it can’t be used when the power is off.

Various control buttons are located on the right side. There was no big inconvenience to use the control buttons on the reverse. Below the Fn button, the status LED is installed.

Looking at the thickness of the NX10, I think it’s very slim, because a mirror has been taken out from previous DSLR structure. Besides, with the 30mm pancake lens mounted, it looks very slim. It looks good to carry it around and take snap shots.

When it comes to the lenses of the NX10, the focus ring wasn’t rotated when setting a focus with AF. Only in MF, the focus was activated. I wasn’t used to this structure at first, (When the lens is small, it’s easy to touch the focus ring being rotated.) but actually it was more convenient, because the focus ring wasn’t rotated.

Looking at the side, there’s a strap ring on the upper side, and opening up the cover, DC input port, HDMI port, Shutter release port, and USB/Av out port are arranged. DC power is 9V 1.5A, and HDMI supports 1080i, 720p, 576/480p with V1.3.

On the other side, there’s a slot for SD/SDHC card. One thing I wasn’t pleased with was the direction of the slot. The label of the SD card directs the outside. It could have been more convenient, if it directed the opposite, because we usually check the label and put it in the slot.

Looking at the reverse of the NX10, from the left side, speaker, hot shoe, mode dial, power, shutter, and zoom button are located. It’s similar to general DSLR cameras in the button arrangement.

A hot shoe is located on the top of the NX10. When it’s not used, by using a hot shoe cover, it can be protected. When it comes to outer flash, it could also activate flashes from other company, even though the adjustment of light was impossible.

Green button working as Mode dial, Power switch, shutter, Dial, and Zoom button and Shooting type setting button are located on the right side. Mode dial wasn’t inconvenient to use. When changing the power switch from Off to On, it wasn’t smooth. When it comes to Green button, it was used to initialize settings and also as a zoom button, but the location was not appropriate, so I felt a little inconvenient.

A place for Serial number, Tripod hole made of metal, and Battery chamber cover are located on the bottom.

Opening the battery chamber cover, I could see the batter was fixed by a separate fixing instrument. Because the tripod hole is made of metal, I think it’s strong to scratch.

Let’s take a look the accessories included in the NX10. I won’t talk about USB cable, Install CD, and quick manual. Most of all, a battery charger is included and the status of charging can be checked by the LED, and the power connector is replaceable, so it can be used in other countries, once the connecter fits.

The battery is Li-Ion 1300mAh BP1310 and can take 200 minutes / 400 pictures on CIPA standard, and actually I could take shots very long.

A camera strap Samsung logo printed was also included. It was good enough to hang on my neck and wrist with some winding.

Let’s take a look at the user interface of the NX10. The biggest feature of the NX10 is Smart Auto function which has been applied to Samsung Compact Cameras. This function allows users to take great pictures even for beginners, because the NX10 automatically analyzes and optimizes the camera settings according to various shooting situations.

Looking at the shooting screen of Smart Auto, there are various icons on the lower side. According to the situation, appropriate mode is automatically selected to take shots.

It’s the shooting screen of P mode. P mode is displayed on the right below and shutter speed, aperture, exposure, shots to take, and battery are displayed on the lower side. Various information is displayed on the left and right sides as icons, and you’d better check them before shooting.

When recording a move, resolution and quality are displayed in the left side, and aperture value is displayed on the lower side. When it comes to the NX10, P and A mode can be used for movie recording. 720p can be recorded for up to 25 minutes. On the right side, icons to check shooting mode and AF mode are located.

By pushing DISP button, the status of the screen changes to 3 levels. Through the custom screen setting menu, icon, guideline, and histogram can be displayed, and by pushing DISP button once more, nothing is displayed in the screen. Users can change it by the situations.

By using FN button, users can set resolution, quality, AF area, flash, color space, and smart range. The last menu regarding OIS is inactive, and the reason is that there’s no OIS in the 30mm lens. If OIS supporting lens is mounted, the mount becomes active and users can select whether OIS is activated every time or only when pushing the shutter.

Selecting OK button from the direction key of the NX10, AF area can be selected. The size and location of AF area is adjustable, so users can exactly set the focus where they want. Moreover, selecting 4 direction key, metering, AF mode, white balance, and ISO can be adjusted. One unique thing is that there’s no AF-MF conversion button in the 30mm lens, and it can only be converted as software.

Pushing the shooting type setting button on the top, users can select the shooting mode among continuous shot, burst, and timer. Selecting trash bin button, Picture Wizard is executed, and users can select the colors they want to shoot.

Pushing exposure compensation button, colors slightly go blue and exposure can be adjusted. By pushing AEL button, exposure can be fixed. Pushing it once more, it’s released.

Pushing the menu button, setting screen is displayed, and Camera 1-3 are menus to set by pushing Fn button, and in human shape 1, users can set quick function settings such as exposure compensation, noise reduction, and AF assist light custom setting. In setting 1, settings like format, initialization can be done, and in setting 2, screen, date, and sound settings such as quick view, screen adjustment can be made. Lastly, in setting 3, cleaning sensor and video output can be set, and new firmware can be updated through this menu.

Pushing the playback button, users can check pictures previously taken, and thanks to the AMOLED, it has great visibility even outdoors. Selecting DISP button, information of the pictures can be confirmed and editing function is also provided. Pictures can be arranged in 3×3 or 5×4, and can be sorted by file type or date.

compared ISO setting in day and night. It was good enough to use in up to 400 or 800, but there was some noise in higher ISO. What I didn’t like of the NX10 was the lower image details caused by reduced noise. Of course, it’s the best to get the reduced noise and great image details, but it’s not easy actually. Therefore, I think it could have been better, if users could choose one of them.

The NX10 provides 9 kinds of Picture Wizard such as Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm, and Classic, and 3 more with custom. Because they are slightly different, users can take shots with the mode they want. I think it would be better if 3 custom Picture Wizard modes can be shared through the web.

The NX10 supports various types of White Balance, and it was the most convenient for me to set Custom White Balance at once by using Depth Preview button on the front. Personally, I take a lot of shots under low light condition and set White Balance by using a grey card, but with this function, I could easily set White Balance.

Moreover, it supports various White Balances such as Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent W, Fluorescent NW, Fluorescent Daylight, Tungsten, Flash WB, User White Balance, and Color temperature. It was quite good at setting the White Balance most of the time, and for more accuracy, I could also adjust it with looking at the live view by setting it to Color Temperature.

The NX10 can record a movie for 25 minutes in 720P 30fps. Pushing Depth preview button while recording, AF tracking started, but I didn’t think it was fast enough, and it often failed to track the focus if the objects was moving fast. When it comes to exposure mode, P and A modes ar supported. In A mode, aperture can be adjusted while recording, and by using MF, various effects can be applied using shallow depth. Therefore, it’s very good to express users’ intention compared to compact cameras.

We’ve looked at the NX10 closely. We need a camera when we go traveling or something. In this situation, we needed to choose a DSLR with great quality but heavy weight or a compact camera with relatively low quality, but light weight. I personally prefer a compact camera. After taking shots, I used to be unsatisfied with the quality of pictures, and decided to take a DSLR next time, but still prefer a compact camera. However, the Samsung NX10 would be a good choice to people like me. Especially, with the 30mm pancake lens, you will have both great image quality and small size.

DSLR cameras look and are really heavy, so I couldn’t easy carry or hold them.

After long waiting more than a year, when I grabbed the NX10`s body, I felt really amazing and I’m still feeling it. Because I waited for and wanted it, I could really be pleased with it, even though I waited too long.

Before released, it had the nickname like Nox, and it’s the NX10 which is Samsung’s new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera having 14.6M pixels with 23.4×15.6mm sensor. Except a protruding part, it has 123 ×87×39.8mm (WxHxD) of size and 353g(except Battery and memory card) of weight.

I’m neither a professional photographer, nor a high level DSLR user, but a user enjoying taking pictures with a popularized DSLR camera, so I’d like to review this new type mirrorless interchangeable camera and tell what I felt while using this camera as a beta tester.

These images were taken by the NX10 with 30mm pancake lens and you can see how small it is by looking at the camera the model is holding. This small size and light weight means a lot, because it’s like using a compact digital camera with its great mobility, so women users can easily take a shot and hold it with one hand without much inconvenience.

The center image is the NX10 with the 30mm lens mounted and the left one is with the 18-55mm lens mounted with a hood. The last image is accessories such as lenses, flash, and filters which were exhibited together with the camera. Now you will see them in the market.

Looking like a smaller DSLR. It was the first impression of the NX10 for me, and I was a little unsatisfied with this traditional design, but on the other hand, it was comfortable. It has a 14.6M pixels APS-C CMOS sensor.

The slightly protruding grip art allows users to push the shutter more comfortably, and when using both hands, faster control is possible.

The NX10 supports most of the functions which middle level DSLR cameras support. The 3″ AMOLED screen and EVF with 100% visibility and 920K pixels makes it more special.

The body is made of strengthened plastic, and opening up the left cover, A/V output port, HDMI output port, and 9V DC input port are located. A memory slot is on the right side, and a tripod mount hole and battery slot are located on the bottom. With its 1,300mAh BP1310 Li-Ion battery, I could take about 450 pictures.

Looking at the button arrangement of the NX10, most of them are located on the right side in order to be controlled by thumb and index finger.

The NX10 supports all the modes from Samsung compact digital cameras and high-end digital cameras such as Smart / P / A / S / M / Night Scenery / Portrait / Landscape / Scene / Movie mode. Next to the shooting button, a dial button to set the details more quickly is located, and AM/MF / Metering / ISO / WB buttons are separately located for more convenience. In menu, direction key can be used for this.

Fn / AEL / Exposure compensation buttons look very convenient to me. However, the power button is a little too stiff to push it smoothly, and the location of zoom in/out buttons is not good enough to control, but it’s understandable for me, because the stiff power button is to prevent the camera from mistakenly being turned on, and the arrangement is due to the small size.

The above menu images are the composition of A mode. The NX10 has various kinds of menu compositions, and they include ISO from 100 to 3200, bracket, continuous shot, Smart Range, and Noise reduction.

When it comes to camera shape menus, they are slightly different by each menu, and 3 basic setting menus on the right side are the same for all. The menu composition of the NX10 fit in the one page without scroll and is well arranged to easily find what you want. And various function buttons located outside allow more convenience.

Because my DSLR camera is kind of old, I felt inconvenience to use it for a while, but the NX10 has various functions to satisfy all users from beginners to high level users, I think.

Especially, I like the fast AF speed, Face Recognition AF, and focus area modification much.

The image on the top is a basic display screen using the multi AF focus area. The NX10 supports Contrast AF and in multi AF, normal is 15 and in close up, 35 are detected as focusing points and when setting AF to Face Recognition, it detects faces more quickly and easily. When it comes to selection AF, the size and location is adjustable, so you don’t have to use half shutter to set the composition any more. However, it could have been better if the location of focus area was adjusted more quickly by using direction key.

There are 3 lenses released such as 18-55 standard zoom lens and 50-200 telephoto zoom lens for the NX10 in the market.

How is it? When it’s mounted and pulled, it has a way bigger size, so it’s not small or light any more. It’s not consistent with the concept of the NX10, but I just want you to see this could be used like this.

The 18-55mm standard and 50-200mm telephoto lens has OIS function, while the 30mm pancake lens doesn’t. However, it fits the NX10 the best and has great performance with the aperture of F2., so I like the 30mm pancake lens the most.

The 18-55mm standard lens has also great performance, so it’ will be useful in various situations. Samsung will release more lenses including a movie lens, so in 2 or 3 years, there will be more lenses to use together with the NX10.

In this review, I went over the appearance and interface. In the next review, I’m going to take a closer look at the 30mm pancake lens and show portrait and landscape shots.

Personally, it was good, because I could easily take these pictures thanks to the great mobility of the NX10. It was also easy to record movies.

My favorite lens is”¦

Like I mentioned from the previous review, I used 3 lenses for the field test such as 30mm, 18-55mm, and 50-200mm. These have been released together with the NX10 and for the basic bundle kit, the 18-55mm lens has been attached.

However, all field testers liked the 30mm pancake lens the most. The silhouette of pancake also made the mobility of the NX10 the best, but the most important one is its brightness and sharpness.

Personally, I agree with their opinion. However, the bundle 18-55mm lens was also quite good and more useful than 30mm. That’s why I started to take a lot of pictures with the 18-55mm lens.

In conclusion..

In conclusion, the NX10 was not only great to carry, but also great to take shots with deeper depth and 720p videos with the APS-C standard large image sensor. It can be used for various situations.

Of course, there were some functions to be updated such as AF function, but there will be new lenses this year and Samsung is preparing the next model in the near future. I’m looking forward to seeing a new NX camera from Samsung Digital Imaging.

The Smart auto function automatically adjusts the 11 scene modes. The IT from the IT100 means “˜Intelligent’, so you can see the IT100 is an intelligent digital camera. Because the IT100 is small, cute, and convenient, this camera has the name “IT” as you can see.

Feature of the IT100

The IT100 has 12.2M pixels. Looking at the feature, this product has high pixel and 28mm wide optical 5x zoom, and they are the most important feature of the IT100. The smart auto function was the best.

Looking at the specification of the IT100, there’s a thing noticeable. Because the IT100 supports 28mm FOV, you can get a wider angle picture. Especially, optical 5x zoom is very useful, when you want to take a closer picture. When it comes to video, it supports HD resolution, so it’s more vivid and the quality is better. On top of that, through the beauty shot function, you don’t need any editing program to get more beautiful videos. People will like these functions, I bet. Since the IT100 supports optical IS function, you don’t need to worry about the hand blur in the pictures when taking moving objects, or from moving transportation.

The IT100 can be easily used. Through the mode dial, you can set the mode when taking pictures. Everyone can get the best pictures by setting the optimized mode. Besides, you don’t need to change the mode dial, but just pushing the shutter, and then the mode changes to what you want. This is the intelligence of the IT100.

The LCD size of the IT100 is 3.0 inch. You can see pictures on wider screen, and menu can be adjusted. It’s great to check pictures on the bigger and wider screen.

And I think this deserves to be loved from the world. Tester as Relief in such boredom~ You know my digital camera~ Such a big size, small LCD window, and 3.4M pixels. I’ve been using this well for a long time, but once I have used the new one, I don’t think I will use the old one. What should I do?

 

Comparing ES55(SL102) to cell phone

It’s shorter than the cell phone. And what about the color? It’s so pretty. It’s good, because it’s not that unique pink. Looking at it, I’m so happy. 

2.5 inch wide LCD. I smiled while taking a self shot. So happy.

The menu seems complicated, but it’s very convenient to use. Selecting the scene in the mode, you can select it among beauty shot / night scene / portrait / kid / scenery / macro / character / sunset / dawn / backlight / firework / beach / snow.

I don’t know picture setting. Just select things. Then it’s okay.

The beauty makes skin gorgeous. I’m going to use this a lot.

The appearance becomes different, and the circular type battery changes to the exclusive battery of the ES55(SL102). I prefer the exclusive battery. Ah! The USB port has the rubber to prevent from losing. It’s good, because it prevents from losing, but I need to be careful when plugging the USB. I might break the rubber. It should have been better if it wasn’t bothering like this.
