Wider, Closer!!

by Caem

This posting is a story about photos. With the camera in one hand, Ca’em lets his footsteps take him wherever to bring a broader world into the frame – sometimes like a drawing on a canvas, sometimes like a moving picture. But can I pull this off? I think my smart camera, WB500(HZ10W) is more than capable of doing this! I’ve used the special functions of wide-angle lens and 10X zoom to take landscape pictures at different times of the day. Is this mission a success or a failure? Well”¦ I’ll let you decide after looking at the photos. Wanna join me for a nice promenade? :)

Lonely tree WB500 wide1

The tree stands still as if waiting for someone. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem lonely today because of its companion. There is no one who passes the lonely tree without pausing for a second. The tree invites some for long day wondering, some for photo taking – just like Ca’em. ;)WB500_Zoom1

Zoom in to get a closer photo of the tree. These photos are taken from the same distance  (200m), but at different zoom. 10X zoom generally creates a bad lens shake. But Ca’em has the reliable WB500(HZ10W)!! Because WB500(HZ10W) combines both optical + digital DUAL IS, it allows for vivid photos. However, you can see that the subject becomes darker as you zoom in closer. Well…

I guess Super Ultra WB500(HZ10W) is not well enough to satisfy both of them. In this case, adjust the shutter speed and ISO for better results. If I can get one good shot, I am willing to go through any trouble. WB500(HZ10W) offers easy-to-control Command Lever to boot! So let’s try different things.

WB500 bird com 1

Another matter captured in Ca’em’s angle! A bird was idly enjoying its walk. Others with DSLR are busy shouting “Quick! Get it!”, “I need to change my lens!”, making all the fuss to change to telephoto before the bird flies away”¦ but they eventually give up.

Meanwhile, Ca’em moves ever so elegantly to do a 10X close-up~ zooooooooooom. haha! In fact, birds make for a valuable subject because they don’t appear so often. And a bird standing alone in a vast plain – a perfect subject for zooming!

Clouds on the lake WB500_Zoom_lake1

I leave the park to go to a lake. I walk around for a while to find the right spot that takes in both the sky reflected on the lake and the bridge in the far distance. It’s 4:00 pm in the afternoon. Good timing to capture the quiet lake. Sometimes, it’s worth looking at the world upside down – more so if you cannot successfully capture the clouds on the sky. Try taking the picture upside down.WB500 wide dslr

WB500(HZ10W) embracing the ocean WB500_wide_1 164-111

WB500 wide dslr 1

The last destination is the ocean. I rush so that I can arrive in time to capture the ocean embracing the sun. 20 minutes before sunset! Many photographers are lined up to capture the sunset and are crazily pressing away their shutters to seize the sun that lies beyond the ocean. A little behind the crowd, Ca’em also busily presses the shutter for fear of missing the breath-taking view. The harsh ocean wind feels so cold that I feel like my face will freeze in no time, but I can’t stop looking at the red sun. The sound of shutters and people shouting! Click!! The cold air seems to make the shutter sound resonate more clearly. Now Ca’em knows why people madly press the shutter button at the sight of a beautiful landscape. Wow! The overwhelming excitement!!

The red lighthouse and the sky

The lighthouse emitting a red color stronger than the sun itself is the landmark of this place. The lighting seems to make the lighthouse appear more glamorous.WB500_Zoom_lighthouse

Ca’em tries various different settings to find the best mode for twilight. Set ISO400 at manual mode and take pictures at different shutter speeds and used different ISO at 1/750s speed. My skill falls short of capturing the balance between the red-tainted sky and the lighthouse after the sunset. ;-( Evening glow should be one of my future posting topic.

Writing this post, I was impressed by the fact that I was able to take all the pictures with WB500(HZ10W). But, many of the photos seem slightly lonely. Maybe the photos portray Ca’em’s feelings? : ) This was a precious session that revealed the attractiveness of WB500(HZ10W) compared to DSLR. Maybe Ca’em’s struggle to take professional photos with digital camera is gradually bearing fruit? ;->  I hope you guys enjoy my photographs and I’ll bring funny stuff on next post. Bye until then :))WB500_Zoom_Sea
