[MODSMODS] Part 3: Camera Handy Bag
![]()
Here is a pouch I made for my precious camera. To make a pouch, you need a “sewing machine”, but sewing with your hand still works well. Mods is still learning how to use a sewing machine, so I have my own challenges, but still wanted to share with you how to make a digital camera pouch. So, shall we give it a try? :)
What you need: Linen for basis, fabric for decoration (ribbon or handkerchief), sewing machine or needle, hair accessory/bell, scissors, ruler and iron.
1. Cut the linen in 11*16 size. I used two layers because the cloth I have is too thin.
2. Prepare a piece of cloth to decorate the base linen. You can also use a scarf or ribbon for decoration. Cut the piece of cloth to fit the size of the base linen.
3. Base linen ““ Fold the cloth inwards using either the sewing machine or tacking. This is similar to how you make an ordinary pocket. Repeat the same procedure for the two pieces of linen to be used as the surface of the pouch.
4. Fold the part that will become the mouth of the pouch once and sow using the needle.
5. Sow the green dotted cloth so that it is placed horizontally to the mouth. Repeat the same for the remaining base linen. Make sure to place the green dotted cloth at different heights so that the cloth cross when put together.
6. Now, let’s try connecting the two main pieces. First, sow the bottom before sewing the side of the pouch. This may be a little tricky so be cautious!
Lock – Next is the button to close/open the pouch!!
7. Hair accessory that has become loose, or a ball that can serve as a lock are good. In my case, I used a hair accessory.

8. Cut the elastic band as shown in the photo and sow the ball that is attached to the band to the inner side. Fix the ball that is not attached to the band to the outer side using the needle. Use the band to complete the lock! Was that too difficult? :)
That completes the pouch making, but finding the pouch too empty, I drew stitches, pictures and my name using a black marker. Iron it at hot temperature to make it water resistant. :)
The pouch is good enough to carry in a bag, but to make the pouch more portable, I attached a strap for convenience. Concerned about poor cushioning? You can use quilted cloth instead. It took Mods about 2 hours to complete the pouch.
To avoid errors, I sketched the outline beforehand and that clearly helped to save time. Doing a draft also helps to prevent waste. Why don’t you join me in making a pouch that will protect your camera from dirt? See you guys on the next post! You may expect a next craft. Bye until then. :)
